In this week’s “Get to Know” article, we will be learning more about Seacoast United Maine North staff member, Ryan Pelletier. Ryan will be coaching the clubs Minis and Junior Academy for the 2018/19 season.
Tell us a little bit about yourself! Do you have any hobbies you like to do in your spare time?
Hi, I am Ryan Pelletier. I am from Orrington, ME. I grew up in Maine, and have been all over the world. I appreciate everything I have and will always want to learn more. I enjoy anything outdoors, but ironically, I love a good movie/ cooking. After graduating college, I started coaching and teaching full-time. I’ve done both in Maine, New Hampshire, and Colorado.
What is your previous experience playing soccer? Coaching? Who has been the most influential person in your career?
I had no aspersions to be a developmental coach, however, I proudly am. I’ve learned from Seth Brown, Billy Shannon, Paul Wellman, Pete McDonnell, Dave Patterson, and my mother and many more. The beauty of the game is creativity. Life itself is similar. Be who you are. I coach the youngest kids in America. It makes me proud to be a part of something they’ll create.
What made you decide to want to start coaching?
I’ve been coaching since I was not old enough to coach. I have always seen the beauty that soccer brings (on and off the field). I know it’s bigger than us, and want to share it with others.
What’s been your best memory while being involved in coaching soccer?
My best memory as a coach, is when a young player looks you in the eyes and says thank you. I’m very thankful for those moments. But, all in all I can’t thank anyone more, than those kids who appreciate what happened. It’s the same when the parents share the same kindness. My mother showed it to me and I have got to see all the other parents do the same.
Which current or former professional athlete did you admire the most growing up and why?
Paul Pierce was my favorite athlete growing up. He had this edge to him that was unpredictable (creative). Also, I admired his loyalty. The Celtics were more than a name and paycheck. It was his family. I consider Seacoast as mine.
Rapid Fire Questions:
Favorite food – I love cooking. But if I had to pick a favorite meal it’d be steak, lobster, asparagus and potatoes.
Favorite genre of music –
I like all music, other than country, but it’s growing on me.
Favorite place to visit – I’ve been lucky enough to have been all over the world, but my favorite place will be after August 31st... I’m getting married! Then I can ask my wife where she wants to go. I hope she picks somewhere warm! :)
Favorite Premier League team – The winning one. I just enjoy soccer but if I had to pick it’d be Man City or Wolves.
